Key Qualifications

  • Understanding of greenhouse and controlled environment mechanics.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage data.
  • May be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
  • Mechanically inclined with ability to troubleshoot.

Description

Major responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and organizing greenhouse and work areas; daily greenhouse routine maintenance.
  • Hands-on sowing, transplanting, and destruction of plants used in herbicide, fungicide and insecticide screening assays.
  • Produce high quality plant material to assist in crop protection assays.
  • Follow detailed research protocols for plant treatment, sample collection, etc. 
  • Monitor plant health, nutrient and pH remediation to support optimal plant growth.
  • Support greenhouse crop protection experiments on different crop and weed systems.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting work to ensure the greenhouse is fully operational as well as performing mechanical/systemic optimizations to improve greenhouse efficiency.
  • Share results, skills, and knowledge in a team-based environment.
  • Maintain timely and accurate lab records. Follow all Environmental, Health & Safety standards and maintain company compliance requirements. 
  • Perform maintenance tasks as needed to support the office. Ad hoc duties needed within the organization that may require heavier lifting (> 25 lbs). 

Education

B.S. in plant biology, plant physiology, plant pathology, weed science, agricultural pest management, or a related discipline, and 1-2 years industry related experience.
